Montana State law closely regulates the gaming industry with numerous rules and laws. Some of the frequently asked questions are:
 
 
 
How much can I wager?  The maximum bet per poker hand or keno game is two dollars. The law does not specify a minimum amount.
 
How much can I win?  The amount players can win is based on the amount bet. The maximum win per state law is $800 per poker hand and $800 per keno game.
 
During what hours can I play?  Video gaming is allowed between 8 a.m. and 2 a.m. Local jurisdictions, such as incorporated cities and counties, may extend the hours of operation.  Currently, the following Montana jurisdictions allow gaming establishments to remain open 24 hours: Libby, Shelby, Conrad, Butte-Silver Bow, Anaconda-Deerlodge, Missoula, Lolo, Bonner and East Helena.
 
How many machines are allowed in a casino?  A combination of poker and keno machines cannot exceed 20 machines per licensed location.
 

Why don’t more casinos exist?  To operate a casino, a State-issued liquor license is required.  The number of licenses issued is determined by a quota based on population.
